Lady Z is back
By Bill Gerard
"We don't do it for the bucks; we do it just to have a good time." remarked Lady Z after his show at the 620 club on May 18.
Entitled "Let's Do It Again", the show was an encore to "Musical Queens," which Lady Z presented at the 620 on April 20. That show ended his two year absence from the stage.
Lady began performing 13 years ago, using the show bar as a "little theatre", a place where he and his friends could have fun creatively and, at the same time, entertain an audience.
Most of his shows were done at the 620 although he has taken shows out of town to Warren and Columbus.
The two year respite was for personal reasons.
Lady Z doesn't consider himself in competition with other entertainers around town. "Each is an individual with unique tal-

place. All those memories of my deposed shah, Mohammed Fontaine, coming back to me. Mohammed belly-dancing and shaking those shoulders!! (Come back! Come back! I know you're a worthless jerk, but I don't care!!) The people who run this little bit of heaven are Lebanese and speak Arabic, but it's as close as
I've been able to get to Teheran for months.
The Middle East restaurant has room. The decor is quietly a large, and spacious dining Arabic. Simple, but not at all plain. When my party and I were there--once during the week and again on a Saturday night--there were no more than four other
couples, which made the atmos-
phere quiet and intimate.
Menus are printed in both English and Arabic which is doubly interesting since English is read from left to right and Arabic is read from right to left. Of course, I had my heart set on some swarthy waiters, but our waitresses were as nice as could be. · Our first waitress was so friendly and informative; she would make a wonderful mother-in-law. Our second was a pretty young arabic girl. However, she did tend to set (drop) the plates down a little heavily.
There's no way I can accurately describe the foods we tried. Most have Arabic names and, while I'm not sure of the ingredients, they were all very delicious. For an appetizer, we
plant, Kafta (barbequed ground meat), rolled grape leaves, and a lima bean dish. Most dinners are served with rice and pine nuts, and a salad or yogart. Pita bread was also provided. All of us were very full when finished. Yet, we sampled Bakhlava (a nut roll dipped in honey) for dessert. The Middle East is a very nice place to go. If not for a stro!! down memory lane, then for a pleasant evening and a delicious Bambi hoof of approval and I meal. This restaurant rates the recommend that you try it. And if after all these "subtle" hints. I don't get a date with some Arabic or Persian hunks, I'm going to swear off Pistachio nuts and
Chadors forever. I mean now
really, please! Give me break!!

Ron left the show in 1978 to go to Los Angeles and try his luck there. While in LA, he replaced Sammy Williams (Tony winner for his original role of Paul San Marco in ACL) in a play called STAGES, a CHORUS LINE imitation. Soon after STAGES closed, Baayork Lee, another member of the original cast, called Ron to tell him she was forming a company of ACL to take to Hawaii and wanted to use former cas: show was a huge success in members. Ron recalls, "The Hawaii. This really surprised us because everything in the show is so far removed from anything they could have know!."
Ron left the show a second time to return to Los Angeles. "This time I really hit bottom. had no money and the work just wasn't there. I wound up working

Lady Z's style has been to hold the show together with a' story line. He deviated from this in his last two shows and used a .night club format instead. This makes for a more glamorous show but Lady Z feels it is not as entertaining to the audience. Using a story line is more involved and a lot more work.
Jim Scott has directed Lady Z's shows for the past 13 years. He also did the costumes for the last two shows, working from sketches down by Lady Z. The costumes took eight weeks to fashion.
Rehearsals lasted 6-8 weeks, 3 nights per week and Sundays. The cost of each show is around $3,000 and Lady picks up the tab for what might be considered an expensive hobby.
One of Lady Z's greatest pleasures is introducing new performers In "Let's Do It Again." Roxie made his debut, and was well-received by the audience. Lady Z plans to do an autumn show using all new performers. He is a great believer in Cleveland talent and is saddened by

Several members of the HIGH GEAR staff and their friends gathered in the "enchanted forest" section of Edgewater Park under the Wagner statue. Hosted by THUMPER, this slipshod picnic was another classic that most of us are so wrongly. example of gay queen dizziness stereotyped as being. Scheduled to start at 1 p.m., the host himself was almost the last to arrive.(45 minutes late). Hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni, potato and green salads were finally served at 4:30 p.m. with 2-day-old cake for dessert.
Highlighting this, holiday disaster were balsa-wood and styrofoam airplanes donated by. Lucille Van Aiken and distributed by this writer. By the end of the 'afternoon several scantily clad males were seen flying them (the airplanes, I mean).
Some poor soul kept screaming, "Stop calling me Laverne" and Bambi's heart gave a thump
